It has been two weeks since my return from Chicago and I am only writing about it now. However, there is some justification in this post, and that is the fact that I travelled to Chicago last year and wrote about it then!

However, this time I want to talk about a different side of the stunning city. Last year, I posted beautiful architectural shots and photos of the lovely city's landscape. I believe I focused on how pretty, green, and magnificent the city is for a visit.

This time, I want to talk about what made me happiest while in Chi-Town... Since I enjoy all three, it was exciting to be in Chicago last year when the Blackhawks were playing Vancouver on their way to the Cup, and this year right after Derek Rose was announced NBA MVP.

Last year, I watched the White Sox play the Toronto Blue Jays, and this year I watched the Cincinnati Reds barely beat the Cubs. It was definitely the highlight of my trip to Chi-Town. The Cubs game was amazing! We went to watch a game the day after Cinco de Mayo, and we got shirts that said "Los Cubs" on it!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiG1icN5LPwRcGhhDNfKKf7b7uiEOUTvXNOwor6N2_IZMMrbmTBGIjuIeqs9O-Isp3YKkWK4nInqQx4FKEbHNX8IHwRJ14USsW-W_q2x-2cCfqPTXOeSVwqRn1ARBY6Mdxn5x565ml0a9o/s400/cubs.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5610308355157347298" />
It is something magical to see so many DIE HARD Cubs fans cheer on a team that hasn't won in about a century! I must say, when the Cubs, and if, they ever win the Series.... I WANT TO BE IN CHICAGO! IT WILL BE THE BIGGEST PARTY at Wrigley Field EVER. I don't want to miss that! Even if I'm not a big Cubs fan... I want to be there!

When I wasn't watching the Cubs game or watching NHL playoffs on TV at a pub, I was revelling in pure shoppers delight at Nike Town and Sports Authority. Nike Town (as you see above) was four floors of HAPPINESS in shoes to shirts, to shorts. And Sports Authority (also above) was just... well... heaven.
It was 8 floors of everything sports. And the best part? BARGAIN BASEMENT! I could have spent a whole day in the store going from floor to floor!

Once again, Chicago was a great experience and I was blessed to have the opportunity to go with friends and peers on one last HURRAH before the working world takes over.Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-82622111012529266982011-04-05T18:29:00.004-05:002011-04-05T18:58:07.997-05:00The Comfort of RainNow that I'm blogging on the most important piece of the puzzle of life, HAPPINESS, I figure I should change the design and title of my blog. But, I'm not going to because the other day I realized it's a perfect fit for my blog's theme. Let me explain.

Two days ago, some would say the weather was miserable because it was gloomy and raining all day. I tend to disagree. Maybe you don't feel the same, but I find a rainy day so comforting once in a while. The other day when it was raining, I woke up, poured myself a cup of coffee, grabbed a mindless book, and curled up on the couch.

There's just something about a rainy day, especially in the spring. It makes everything smell fresh and new! But, going back to the title of my blog, my favourite part about a rainy day is going for a drive (in the passenger seat) and watching the raindrops chase each other down the window in different directions. It has always been comforting and even fascinating to me.

"To be interested in the changing seasons is a happier state of mind than to be hopelessly in love with spring."
~George Santayana

I love spring, it is definitely my second favourite season next to summer. One of the reasons is that we get rainy days and then beautiful sunny days like yesterday and today. I love sunshine! It makes everyone happy! Today my boyfriend was taking garbage to the dump and I jumped in the passenger seat just to go for a drive (okay and to get ice cream after, another one of my favourite things!). It's one of the most freeing feelings to take a drive with the windows open on a bright sunny spring day, just love it!

John Ruskin says it best when it comes to weather, you always have to find the positive side!

"Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather."
~John Ruskin

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTNqWjAInLOp5NN-2NHuqr5wbhzZzBQGFc4yjVRG1ZPag325WiAAHN6m0_IBNPl8d0Us85qchdMQ_jfp5saCPqqOhdfKH0kETwH1-ilf0z1NWcnqbvoEqksSbptZYuAqyvwr3BU_SACOg/s400/IMG_1523.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5592252996287718210" />Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-25388785180443455032011-04-03T13:11:00.003-05:002011-04-03T13:27:42.842-05:00A Little Piece of Happiness<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg1oKDLgsiaHD5DBr8BUs1hIwGiFmvPjlv7UKas2R2w11_FQH8jEy-sWPFTmLgg2Qgy7-f3ZJlvwTVwEcKN9FbkN67AqfJHLUJIwTuf4mDoT8l8o67mHrIC7nJuEOax9BXbczLOJhh0_c/s200/how-to-find-happiness.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5591425450294717618" />At 22 years old, I am finishing up my time in college and coming to a point in my life where I have to "grow up" and figure out my finances and career. I have come to realize that life isn't as peachy as it was when I was nine years old, roaming the countryside with my brothers all day long imagining we were pioneers and knights of the past.

However, life is good and I am blessed. I believe everyone should take a moment out of each day to find a piece of happiness. What do I mean, do you ask? Well, I think it's important for us to take some time to recognize something that made us laugh, shiver, cry, or just smile each day. In doing this, you will remind yourself that you are blessed, and it will keep you in a positive state of mind.

So... I will be modifying my blog to fit this theme. Since starting my own blog, I have struggled incessantly to come up with a specific topic I could focus on in each post. I have finally found it. Something I am very passionate about: HAPPINESS.

As Aristotle said, “Happiness is the meaning and purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.”

This is not the end, please come back for more inspiration and join my journey: an exploration of happiness!Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-64567544827135665542011-03-21T21:16:00.013-05:002011-03-21T22:23:37.685-05:00Canyon AdventuresSince spring is just around the corner I figured I would pay a tribute to Winter 2010-2011. It has been a fine Manitoban winter, with an abundance of snow. I always say if we're going to get the brutal cold weather and some snow, we may as well get piles of it! This makes fun winter activities even better! But, I am so ready for spring. I just need to dig out my galoshes!

Instead of going through all of my winter adventures, I'm going to highlight one of my favourite adventures this winter: my trip to Canmore, Alberta to visit my brother, sister-in-law, and newborn nephew! While in Canmore, my mom and I visited one of our favourite spots, Johnston Canyon.

This beautiful hiking trail about 20 minutes from Banff is a must-see for anyone travelling there! I have only ever been there in the winter, but would love to hike it in the summer because I'm sure it's so different looking! The first time I went to Johnston Canyon, I was not prepared. To sum it up in three words: I wore Uggs. For those unaware of canyon hiking trails, there are a great many ups and downs (hills) along the way and if you're not wearing proper footwear you'll slip and slide the whole hike. Near the end my brother and boyfriend were practically carrying me out, it was that bad.

So, I learned my lesson and this time wore proper winter boots, and my mom who witnessed the tragic event last time, wanted to be extra prepared and went as far as wearing snow shoes! With a camera around my neck, I hiked up the canyon with my mom on a beautiful crisp, but sunny day. It was so beautiful and I would recommend anyone who is going to Banff of Canmore to check it out! Here are some pictures from this winter trip.

The ads featuring the babies are appalling to say the least. You would never dream of seeing ads like this on billboards and in magazines today. This is a fine example of the development of advertising. And it's just plain humorous looking at ads like these, they are ridiculous!Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-55486317172657127132011-02-17T21:40:00.004-06:002011-02-17T21:51:56.652-06:00Halls Doesn't Need a Pep Talk!Pep talk:

n. Informal
A speech of exhortation, as to a team or staff, meant to instill enthusiasm or bolster morale.

The Halls Cough Drops Pep Talk
campaign is excellent! Brilliant! Engaging! I absolutely love Halls' new campaign based on pep talks. You've probably seen the ads on TV, but did you know it's interactive? You can go to the website and create a pep talk for the chance to win $25000!

You have to check the website out, it's hilarious! It's a great idea to get their audience involved and get some extra publicity! This campaign has already generated huge awareness to people that may have forgotten about Halls' existence, just because they have been around for so long.

I believe it's an awareness campaign to bring the brand back into consumers' minds. Halls: I'm impressed, you sure don't need a pep talk because you're on the top of your game! Here's one of my favourite commercials from the campaign:

Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-46924785090202689392011-02-11T09:07:00.012-06:002011-02-11T12:03:53.078-06:00Good Health is not a Right, it's a Gift1 out of every 4 Canadians will die from cancer.

40% of women and 45% of men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.

Another Canadian is diagnosed with this disease every 3 minutues.

Cancer kills another Canadian every 7 minutes.

Did those sentences almost make you choke? When I read them I had to shake my head and read them again. These statistics are real. They come from the Canadian Cancer Society.

These staggering statistics are a reminder to be so very thankful every day you are given good health. It's easy to wake up and think about the problem areas in your life, whether it be relationship issues or the fact that you don't have the bikini body you want for your vacation coming up.

Let us all remember that health is not a right, some of us are very fortunate. So please be thankful for the good health you have every day. And you'll be surprised at how trivial other things seem when you focus on the positives! With this comes thoughts of employment and hopes that I find somewhere enjoyable to work.

It also means I am sent on two work placements as a communications intern. This month I had the pleasure of being situated at an accounting recruiting firm, Mercer Bradley Inc. The company`s Winnipeg office is located in the Canwest Global building, downtown. Being placed on the 18th floor in an office with a window overlooking Portage and Main is in itself a giant step for a girl who grew up on a farm in rural Manitoba.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 169px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuz7nYY1QNVXYRSS-FyNCMF0uGdAVhVYWCIurtwGsyN9_lSLCfpf1Aamrf3Okb5gSxiR2tG6zHHWw7LmhKZRYBxddtPMqOkWCcf-RYX01hETiFQWoLLyG-IJG_cMmEP8p23be8Dcdz0mM/s200/canwest.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564378459636951746" />When I first heard about Mercer Bradley Inc., I have to admit I knew nothing about the corporation. But the opportunity to help a business with their social media and marketing interested me and I jumped at the chance!

The first day I had to hang my head in shame as I asked the Practice Leader, Angela Chambers, what exactly she did at Mercer Bradley. She explained it to me perfectly, “Mercer Bradley takes on the role of the real estate agent, but within job placement.” Just as real estate agents find potential house buyers for a client selling a house, Mercer Bradley Inc. finds potential candidates for their client looking to hire.

My experience working at Mercer Bradley Inc. has been an exciting and unexpected one. As a college student already on the hunt for a job, I am intrigued learning about recruiting companies. The idea of a company being the middle man within the job hunt, striving to benefit both parties is neat and efficient. Mercer Bradley Inc. specializes in placing accounting and finance professionals, but there are many recruiting opportunities in different professions.

I am fascinated because this experience came to me at a suitable time. First off, like I said I am in the process of job hunting and this experience has opened my eyes to what kind of help is out there for college graduates like me. Second, I have been situated in a field I believe I would excel in.

After interning at a recruitment office I have seen where a career in human resources could take me. This experience has encouraged me to use my local recruiting agency, the Employment Services office in Red River College. As a student, I may as well take advantage of these services and I encourage my peers to do the same!Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-45512688744521772972010-12-07T19:43:00.004-06:002010-12-08T15:47:27.881-06:00Now I UnderstandFor the past week I've been intrigued with a very popular personality test, the Temperament Character Intelligence Test by David Keirsey.

I have done so many personality quizzes in my life, but often they have answers that can be said about anyone. This is by far the most accurate personality test I have ever done. The testing is very intense, with 70 questions to answer. It then tells you which temperament you are, and even more specific which of the four types within each temperament you are.

After you find out which temperament you are, you can read all about yourself. The book , "Please Understand Me" goes into details on everything from your most likely parenting traits, the ways you deal with stress, best job fits, and even mating compatibility (arguing patterns, etc).

My boyfriend and I each did the test. I was declared an Idealist, more specifically a Teacher. Wes was diagnosed (yes I sound medical) a Guardian, more specifically a tie between an Inspector and Protector.

Even though the test doesn't say we're the most compatible pair, it helped us understand each other's patterns, such as our romance and time management habits. I was amazed at how accurate the test was. Many are doubtful of how accurate the test is, but it fits my boyfriend and I to a "T".

I suggest you try it out, and see for yourself! But obviously take the compatibility tests with a grain of salt! (Aka. Don't dump your partner because you don't fit in the most compatible pair section, unless it's a coverup for the real reason you've been wanting to break up) !Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-90451772972676790762010-12-01T13:52:00.004-06:002010-12-01T20:47:42.303-06:00Bud Light. Just Right.Yesterday I watched the Cannes Lions ad winners at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. I was impressed with the incredible display of creativity like usual. I didn't laugh as loud as last year but there were more well done serious ads and PSAs this year.

I do enjoy watching serious ones if they make you think or make you emotional. Many of them this year tugged on my heart strings and made me think again about certain issues. I was ecstatic to see the Canadian Cancer Society's Fight Back campaign in the winners because it is one of my favourites. Beware if you watch it though because it is very emotional and heart wrenching.

On to a lighter note! Bud Light had some really funny ads on the winning list! This campaign promotes their beer as "not too heavy and not too light...just right!" This one is my favourite of the campaign and I don't think it was a winner at the Cannes but it is hilarious! Check it out! And if you have time check out the rest of the campaign on YouTube!

Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-56985177094235295552010-11-23T19:21:00.006-06:002010-11-23T19:44:37.641-06:00A Walk On the Waterfront<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcOdf6ItNVDE6j0rdFafGQ_NuUBrgeYpPO7zlBnIkY0hKOnGsiW2JdbrR3QHT3cdlOEmXwhm8hTzanLzuRVtd5DQ9QaEgTwoGxy-VtqQE9uGIVp6sN8WSfjZy4S_nUCtTyAAFJNVLvawA/s200/BW01_172.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542924694093355922" /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e){}"href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5MzYsmjOXCvgZOha5UqWYWW0OVKf5cSs1UEI5GcS05hb1qv2pzMtgd-MF2udrLfE29adP660nb8mSsrMsjDFx9Envx_ob1Y-Oaq3RrVC2jQuE_Mbb1j9bz3RigtuyEPTJu5bw71_i9Cg/s1600/BW01_247.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5MzYsmjOXCvgZOha5UqWYWW0OVKf5cSs1UEI5GcS05hb1qv2pzMtgd-MF2udrLfE29adP660nb8mSsrMsjDFx9Envx_ob1Y-Oaq3RrVC2jQuE_Mbb1j9bz3RigtuyEPTJu5bw71_i9Cg/s200/BW01_247.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5542924577521769954" />

This fall I designed a calendar in my desktop publishing class. My target audience is female RRC students who want to look good, but can't afford to get their hair cut and styled often because of tight finances. Since I fit into this target audience, I developed a campaign that would attract me to the salon. Out came my "Hair Grows Like Weeds" campaign. Here are some of the creative pieces included in my campaign. Oh and thanks to my gorgeous models, Melissa and Jenn. I saw Kleenex's new ad campaign on TV tonight. Take a look:

The "Softness Worth Sharing" campaign is really cool because it encourages you to go to the Kleenex website and send a specially designed Kleenex box to anyone across North America! FOR FREE! It's a "pass-it-along" campaign where you can trace how far the chain reaches.

Last night I sent a cute Kleenex box to my mom! And hopefully she'll follow suit and send one to someone else and so on... it's a cute idea, and 623841 packs have already been sent across North America! I love this sort of thing so I am excited to tell all my friends and watch the chain grow!

This publicity stunt is a great idea by Kleenex, and it definitely positions their newer brand image in consumers' minds. It makes me feel that Kleenex cares about relationships and spreading friendship this holiday season. After seeing this campaign, I feel Kleenex is "cute","caring" and "fun", oh and it makes me feel sentimental sending a surprise to my mom! I can't wait to hear her reaction!

Way to get the public involved, Kleenex!!Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-24079843246581292782010-11-11T18:34:00.002-06:002010-11-11T18:40:59.392-06:00Standing Strong & True

Since today is Remembrance Day, I decided to post this video of a song called "Standing Strong & True." It features cameos from many great Canadian country artists, and it is a wonderful song. It's the perfect way to think about our Canadian soldiers right now and those who fought for our country years ago.Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-83828769198667127942010-11-05T17:25:00.009-05:002010-11-05T21:15:25.650-05:00Beyond the City LightsSince I attend Red River College in downtown Winnipeg, I had to move to the city for school. I'm not cut out for the city life and I really miss living on a farm. I miss the smells, the beauty, the solitude and mostly the peacefulness of nature. When I get the chance to leave the city lights and head for my hometown, I take it! I took these pictures on the way out to my boyfriend's farm a few weekends ago.

<img style="display:block; I may be biased because a. I'm patriotic, b. I love hockey, and c. I love the outdoors. But this ad gives me shivers every time I watch it. It makes me so proud to be Canadian and I know this is what they were going for, but why fight it? It's the truth, this ad works. And I'm not ashamed to say this, I love this ad for Molson Canadian. To prove how great this ad is, I'll let you in on a secret. My boyfriend is an avid Bud fan and he admitted to me that when he saw this ad he loved it so much that he bought Molson Canadian the next time he was at the vendor. But...that was the one and only time he bought Molson.Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-28298120011430517782010-10-26T15:48:00.003-05:002010-10-26T16:31:39.468-05:00Word of Mouth Works?<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtGTkwjKN751sAvJv9TNRI9l29xGNQueanl_91vJW71QjnSrYU86fGYlXzMO6rdSsPUmkEVPv7FNpeY7uHo-F47_MKaKzPh_U5qfJArkOphrp1Zgh1nqks8ME-oSocmZosXmAZVrvCabE/s200/davids+tea.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5532470539473458722" />Last Monday, I did a market research assignment for my advertising class at Polo Park Shopping Centre. According to my teachers, this is still an important part of any ad campaign. In this case I wasn't working on a campaign, but just observing shoppers' habits and how stores advertise in the mall. As part of my market research, I spent about 45 minutes in David’s Tea observing the customers’ behaviour and watching how the store clerk sold products to consumers. I learned a lot about the company, David’s Tea, and the marketing they rely on.

The store clerk informed me that David’s Tea does absolutely no print, radio, or TV advertising. David’s Tea relies on word of mouth and the internet, which is definitely working for them. David Segal opened the first store in 2008 in Toronto and now there are over 35 stores across Canada.

From my personal experience, I know that word of mouth marketing is proving to be successful for their company. I heard about David’s Tea through a friend and also through Twitter. Many new companies starting up are taking this fresh approach and spending less money on paid advertising. David's Tea can be found on Facebook, Twitter, and also a site called Steepster.com where people can rate teas. David’s Tea also has a website that is consistently updated and interactive. They encourage people to buy tea online.

Since the company does no print or TV advertising, it is important that the salespeople are very helpful and leave a good impression in consumers' minds when they leave the store. It made me think that the company probably spends more time and consideration on the hiring process. I tested this theory out to see how good the salespeople were. I didn’t know anything about the brand so I asked many questions and sampled several teas. The woman working was very helpful and very persuasive. I had to try very hard to leave the store with no purchased tea in my hands. The store clerk’s knowledge of the products and her friendliness really made my shopping experience at that store.

This market research has led me to believe that this method of marketing can obviously work, but the company has to be confident in their store’s service. It also made me think about specialty stores versus franchise businesses. For example, Walmart does an ample amount of advertising on TV, print, and radio. But, they don’t offer the exceptional one-on-one service to consumers that David’s Tea does. Therefore, consumers won't feel compelled to refer others to the store.Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-47186553425387235652010-10-19T11:30:00.013-05:002010-10-19T21:43:58.401-05:00Autumn Colours<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEG4r-OdGPR9ORdxoimmhswkgbi6YCVJfPhvZCoShP6LvXyZWqOE15Ss5SmXTERuU_dXYv8GH49HZZqlaSWtgqtj-Bs3vRrtQdm6JF4w022BSZqaLJMtKjiSRQoCRE10n9Qk7QhW4D2wQ/s1600/scenic9.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEG4r-OdGPR9ORdxoimmhswkgbi6YCVJfPhvZCoShP6LvXyZWqOE15Ss5SmXTERuU_dXYv8GH49HZZqlaSWtgqtj-Bs3vRrtQdm6JF4w022BSZqaLJMtKjiSRQoCRE10n9Qk7QhW4D2wQ/s200/scenic9.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5529797260449759890" /><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTueKrdu-wO1Ddk-i-QRSV69FPTwb3Bw0RP4-v9H5W3o2fzG68LJThsvxTIp5ruuS7Ocp7pe3h0PJ978lsVGYZKRszraom-YzgMVNtznw0pixPJZQrpGZPZil18fhjhKwZ82TsoAo7gqc/s200/scenic13.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5529803609266400818" /><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS8_CE5GeWOwbooNGcc1Jyq_0p2cm8Of62hzXQ8rkvGgBMhuCZALQGiegWjNG-xrNKUgDjeFtxpY54-cjhJtz9kiJ7hARiXLiKdxmedHVsIfOfUxrbd67RvX4ChyzhbnAzvAl1vCt3jxc/s200/scenic6.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5529804722631700530" /><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiORH2DnoMm_izD0_8mnfVoL-vBWaQ3cZZ9AZg8w6vBz9YXMrWwQKpxkuiQsnOErvv6jM58DvtpZ8z-0xuZMpO0nrC_Uj6mOT8OTILfxB1Tauw4TZXsDSQiDZjb0LoEQ4PHuGCfVD9IzKI/s200/scenic5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5529797919929596370" />

Here are some pictures I took at the Seddons Corner gravel pits a few weekends ago. I had never heard of parabens before I began this campaign for a school project.

I always hear people say they use organic hair and body products, but I never know exactly what that means and I have never heard someone say they use "paraben free" products. So I have done some research and looked into the research that my peers Jenn and Megan have done. So to sum it up for you in layman's terms, I've learned that parabens are harmful preservatives used in cosmetics to make them last longer on the shelf. But, they have been linked very strongly recently to breast cancer.

This is not something to take lightly because breast cancer claims the lives of about 100 Canadian women every week, according to the Canadian Cancer Society. So, for those of you that are thinking "well everything is linked to cancer" as you read this, remember there have been studies done and they have research to prove that parabens are harmful. So why take the risk? Why not choose to use paraben free products in hopes that it may be one more thing preventing you from getting to know the scary disease known as cancer? It's not hard to do.

Okay, I'll admit, it is hard to do. But it will be worth it if it's what stops you from taking a seat in the chemo chair. But, I feel for you and understand how hard it is to find out your favourite cosmetic is loaded with parabens and have to part with it.

I did a bathroom scan tonight and found out that my FAVOURITE perfumes and lotions contained the harmful preservatives. Every single Bath & Body Works and Body Shop product I own has parabens in it. This was like taking a punch to my stomach because I am a total scent person. I LOVE SMELLS. It is my favourite of the five senses. Unfortunately, I found out tonight that my favourite smelling products, Chanel and Bath & Body Works Japanese Cherry Blossom both are both on the paraben hit list.
So afterwords I felt regret and wished I had not done the bathroom scan. But, I know in the long run it will benefit me and if anything raise my awareness.

One more thing before I sign off: I was SHOCKED that every single Body Shop product I own has parabens in it because they are always boasting about being natural and good for the environment! BOGUS! In their defense though, I have heard that most of their newer products don't contain parabens. So the best advice I can give you is always look at the labels when purchasing cosmetics and GO DO A BATHROOM SCAN! You'll be shocked!Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-50422010147891535262010-10-15T10:10:00.004-05:002010-10-15T10:43:45.410-05:00

Would you recognize Warehouse One's new logo if it didn't have their name beside it? It almost makes them look like a new, more hip brand. This could be very helpful for them because many people don't think of the store as trendy. People that have never heard of Warehouse One might look at their logo and website and find it appealing.

The reason why I'm blogging about this is because I saw a billboard on Notre Dame Ave in Winnipeg for Warehouse One and I had no idea what the ad was for. The billboard just had the logo and if you looked hard enough you could tell the background was the texture of jeans. I was completely boggled. Yes, I was intrigued and it did catch my attention, but how is it effective if there was no way I could find out what it was for. If there was a website that would have been effective. But, there was no way I could look up the logo online. It was frustrating. I'm assuming that was what they were going for because yes now I'm advertising for them by blogging about it.

Oh, and to finish the story, the way I found out what it was for finally was simply by driving past their store on Portage Ave. If someone saw this ad and didn't drive past the store, they would have no idea what the ad was for.Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-35396811818132021152010-10-08T15:08:00.002-05:002010-10-08T15:14:25.416-05:00Oreos Touch my Heart

This is an ad for Oreos that I keep seeing on TV and I love it! It's a smart ad because it strays from the obvious and works on tugging the viewer's heart strings instead. Also, it gives the viewer a positive image of Oreo, which is great for the brand! I think it's a very cute and smart ad, what do you think?Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-9344732359239188822010-09-30T21:26:00.010-05:002010-10-01T12:44:06.366-05:00My New Haircut<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCbn24E35E9oGokNXVxYoNO0a3Tbb5LMUcudktjVYxe62WlwIpPoDnglTOGyQrMQnHMsjfBXvKYcUtX-UG-o_0MAEG3-td04IcH21_DZJf_c7thvILFDZie-XPiTvy2UwyATuYgJdMSY4/s200/berns+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5522899387066164402" /><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRZYrOBUJ2OQ-nEEx5Jqhxg7721rKbMy3GjBf_j2dqE6lkdFGaXggCf0R42TLWKtB7X94SrzvNa5xexlLNdvKiGY2OURzlZtB9S3gQaDK33zRvHfkkYwuPt-2UMG0PL7cy0qdk0TNUTZM/s200/berns+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5522898979115737298" />
I know this blog post may seem very self-centered...because in a way it is, it's about my haircut. But, that's not the point of this post. The reason I posted my new haircut on here is because in my advertising class I am creating a campaign for Berns & Black Salons & Spa on Main Street. And today was part of my research stage, the fun stage! I booked a hair appointment with one of the salon's newest hairdressers and went to Berns & Black after school to experience the magic!

So you ask me: was I impressed?

Drumroll please.... ding ding ding, YES!

I was very happy with the results and even more happy with the Future Professionals program where they offer Red River college students haircuts for only $20! With the extra $20 I would normally have spent on my hair, I bought an environmentally friendly parabin free smoothing balm, by Kevin Murphy.

So all in all, it was a good experience. The scalp massage was SO good while she was washing my hair and it was a very welcoming environment. I encourage you to check out Berns & Black, especially if you are a Red River student (because there's nothing students love better than a discount!)Lauren Feilberghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07728906474488746266noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-256816113058153964.post-88770104792482334562010-09-22T19:41:00.026-05:002010-09-22T21:17:24.554-05:00The Smell of FallNow that I'm living in Winnipeg again for school, I am missing my farm and the country life terribly. But, when I do get a break from the homework and a chance to drive to East Braintree it's even better because of the wait.

Two weekends ago I had the chance to head out to the place I grew up and since my boyfriend was bow hunting I jumped on the opportunity to spend the sunny afternoon shooting. I hopped on a quad, grabbed the camera I borrowed from school and created my own adventure. Here are some of the pictures of my farm that I was able to capture.

<img style="float:left; Sounds like grade eight all over again for me! Today I realised that I made the right choice in choosing advertising as my major in Creative Communications.

I feel like I can breathe and smile at the same time after today. I am really enjoying being a part of the 2011 advertising class. Now that we're immersing ourselves in the major campaign project of the year for Berns & Black Salons & Spa I am reminded of why I chose advertising. It is so interesting and I love brainstorming with others who also love thinking creatively to come up with brilliant and successful ads! Whether we're learning about ways to force ourselves to use the right side of the brain or playing improv, advertising has been fun and exciting so far! I

Today for the first time ever I was encouraged to have disorganized, shmozzled notes! I never thought I'd ever hear that! (I am constantly apologizing for my messy notes) Apparently it's a useful method to get your right(creative) side of the brain working!
