An Icecream Lovers Dream

Creamy, delicious vanilla soft serve.

Smothered in Hot fudge, butterscotch and pineapple sauce.

Paired with a sliced banana of perfect ripeness.

Topped with silky smooth melt in your mouth whipping cream.

And all put together with a Sweet cherry on top!

AN EXPLOSION OF FLAVOUR IN YOUR MOUTH.

An icecream lovers dream.

I had a banana split for the first time ever a few days ago.

And, I figured I just had to document my unforgettable experience.

Icecream is my go-to when stress takes over.
It's my go-to when I need some comfort.
It's my choice of dessert, lunch, or even breakfast.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ice cream.

And I had never EVER eaten a banana split.
The lady at Sargeant Sundae on Portage Avenue
warned me that they are addicting....

I should have listened.

An Ode To "Pedaheh"

We have the Scottish to thank for one of Canada's favourite winter sports, curling.

We have Henry Ford to thank for his legendary accomplishment, Canada's first legit car.

We have our native peoples to thank for the creation of the great water wizard, the canoe.

We have the Jews in Italy to thank for banking, which our society could not live without.

....and we have the Ukrainians to thank for (drum roll please)... THE PEROGY!

Yes, I saved the best for last.

Perogies are a sort of dumpling filled with yummy fillings such as cheddar cheese, cottage cheese, bacon, or even fruit.

Often they are smothered in butter, bacon onions and sour cream... is your mouth watering yet?

They go by many names in different languages including "pierogi," "perogi," "piroghi," "pirogi," or "pyrohy."

Many countries in Europe claim they are responsible for the invention of one of the YUMMIEST foods in the world.

I believe Ukraine must be the country responsible for the favourite staple, as Ukrainians say it, "pedaheh" in Manitoban's diets.

Think about it, the percentage of Ukrainian Canadians in Manitoba is staggering, although I do not have the exact stats. And how many restaurants sell perogies on their menus? Oh, and let's not forget the aisle in the grocery store in Winnipeg that has a wide selection of perogies for all occasions.

Join me in a toast to PEROGIES, a food group of their own.

AND A STANDING OVATION TO UKRAINE, for the delicious dumplings!

Are you hungry yet?

One last thought:

I guess Manitobans share their love for the perogy with Albertans. In 1993 the village of Glendon put up a 25 foot statue of the tasty treat (up top).

Where Winnipeg Is Like Forever

So as I said earlier in my blog I am writing on different parts of the world. And today I decided to write about our beautiful country, CANADA. Recently, I heard a song on the radio, and it really stuck with me. The artist summed up our huge country in one song. It's a great song for all of us who are PROUD CANADIANS! The song is by Mike Plume Band and it's called This Is Our Home (8:30 Newfoundland). What I really love about this song is the lyrics. They take you from one part of the country to the next within seconds. And Winnipeg is mentioned in the song!!! I KNOW, I was thinking the same thing as you probably are... WOO HOO!! If you have ever travelled across Canada, like me, you'll catch yourself smiling at the end of each line. The singer brings up cool things about different parts of our country that Canadians can relate to. And the artist brings up funny inside jokes us COLD BLOODED citizens share! For anyone who is already a proud Canadian I bet you'll love our country even more when you listen to this song, and watch the video too! You'll find yourself grinning and even giggling at some of the lyrics. Watching the video was a great experience for me too because I could relate to the places on the video, like the giant goose in Wawa, Ontario!

Check out the video and lyrics and ENJOY!

La Cidade Maravilhosa

World's Happiest City?

The city lies beneath the shadow of a 38 meter tall statue of Jesus. The coastal mountains almost look as if they are popping out of the Atlantic Ocean. And let's not forget the 46 miles of sandy white beach front property.
Plus, the people that live there refer to their city as "la Cidade Maravilhosa" which means the Marvelous City. Beautiful, right? (don't ask me to pronounce that)
And then there's the city's annual carnaval (spelled the Portuguese way), the BIGGEST party across the globe!

Now I feel like boarding the first flight: destination Brazil, how about you? Unfortunately that's not an option for me, so instead I want to talk about an article I found on Forbes.com this month.
Rio de Janeiro was voted the world's #1 Happiest City in the world. Now, I'm not sure how they declared this but I just want to point out a few things. Rio de Janeiro has some of the worst crime rates across the world.
It's so bad, that when you look at travel pamphlets and websites they have bold warnings about which areas of the city you visit. The travel websites recommend tourist stick to the beaten path and not wander off. But, isn't that the best part of travelling? Finding a spot that's not crowded with photo-snappers and fanny-pack seniors?

Okay okay, so I understand Forbes.com was most likely talking about the people that live in the Brazilian city. But, is the substantial amount of poverty stricken areas in Rio de Janeiro a secret? Ohhhhh, I see, the reason behind the city's SUPERIOR happiness is the GIGANTIC party they throw every year which brings over a million tourists to the beautiful city. But does an extreme amount of indecent exposure, sex and drugs equal happiness?
I guess that's for you to decide..
I know it's a lot of babbling, but I guess I'm just curious how the city claimed its HAPPY title.

Come along for the journey!

First and foremost, thank you for visiting my blog.
I love to learn more about places across the globe.
The opportunity to do some foreign travelling hasn't been possible
for me yet, but I fully intend to as soon as I get the chance.
For now, I will have to settle with visiting foreign places through
the internet, books, t.v. and word of mouth.
I will be posting my findings and sharing my thoughts with anyone
who is willing to listen or anyone interested in our world, outside of
Winnipeg. I hope you join me in this broad adventure!
